Latest Newsletter -July 2010
Dear Parent/Carer,
New Classes and Transition Meetings
You should all by now be aware of your child’s next class teacher. Mrs Lucy Payne will be joining the teaching staff from September and working in Reception with Mrs Sue Roche and Miss Faye Smile. A reminder that parents are invited to a transition meeting on Monday 19th July for current Reception and Tuesday 20th July for Year 1, both at 9.15 am in the hall, where you will have a chance to meet your child’s new teacher.
Parent Questionnaire
Attached to this newsletter is a questionnaire for you to complete. We hope that as many people as possible will fill them in. This will help us to find out your views and to continue to look at ways to make our school even better. Please return the questionnaires to the school office by Thursday 22nd July. For parents who have received this newsletter via ParentMail, you may pick up a questionnaire from the office if you do not wish to print one off personally.
Hurstpierpoint Gymnastics Club
As part of National Sports Week, Years 1 & 2 were treated to a thrilling display by Hurstpierpoint Gymnastics Club, which many of our children attend. Our own pupils gave a demonstration of the agilities they have learnt. Congratulations were given to Laura Johnstone, who received a silver cup as the top infant of over 150 at the Club. Past pupils Ria Banitas and Billie Phillpot, now at Downlands School, returned to show their competition winning routines, followed by demonstrations of Sports Acrobatic balances.
The Club caters for both girls and boys from 3 to 16 years old, working in the British Gymnastics Award scheme. Any parents who are interested in more details of the Club should visit their web-site www.hurstpierpoint.freeserve.co.uk.
Thank you everyone involved.
Lost Property
We seem to have accumulated a lot of lost property this term. A table will be put outside on Monday 19th July after school for parents to reclaim any items. Can we please remind you to name all items of school uniform as this enables the staff to return any garments to the rightful owners.

End of Term
Can we please remind parents to ensure that their child takes home their PE Bags and any other personal possessions they may have in school by Wednesday 21st July, as they will not be needed on the Thursday.
Each child will need a named carrier bag in school for Monday 19th July in readiness to take home their class work.
A reminder that the parents of Year 2 children are invited to their special leaving assembly on Tuesday 20th July at 2.15 pm in the hall.
Thursday 22nd July is the last day for the children and will be a non-uniform day. The children in Year R and Year 1 will finish at 3 pm as usual.
It is always sad to say goodbye to the children and families leaving the school but we are also very proud of the children and all they have achieved. We wish them well as they move into Year 3 and their new schools. The programme of visits to Windmills this year has helped to make the transition as happy and carefree as possible. The Year 2 children will be finishing at 3.30 pm on the afternoon of Thursday 22nd July so that the staff can say their farewells. The children will leave the school for the last time out of the main entrance by the office.
School re-opens for Y1 and Y2 children on Thursday 2nd September at 8.50 am. The new Reception children will be starting week commencing Monday 6th September.
We would like to thank you all for your continuing support of the school and the many kind and supportive comments received on the report reply slips.
Miss Stedman is getting married during the summer holidays and we would like to wish her and her new husband a wonderful day and a happy future together. From September she will be known as Mrs Hutchings.
Finally may we take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and safe summer holiday and let’s hope the sun shines!
