PSHE, Relationship and Health Education

Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) is the school subject that addresses real-life issues affecting our children, families and communities. It supports pupils to be healthy—both mentally and physically—safe, both online and offline—and equipped to thrive in their relationships and future careers.

At Hassocks Infant School, Relationships and Health Education (RHE) is delivered as part of our whole-school PSHE programme, known as Jigsaw Time. The curriculum is organised into six themes, with one theme taught each half term. These themes are revisited in every year group, enabling children to deepen their understanding and build progressively on their learning throughout their time with us. Each theme is represented by a piece of a jigsaw (in the form of a teddy), giving children a clear visual representation of how the different aspects fit together to support their holistic wellbeing.

PSHE runs through all aspects of school life. While our curriculum forms a key part of this, we aim for children to engage with and practice these skills daily. It can be seen in our behaviour policy, our assemblies, the way we respond to each other respectfully—adults and children alike—and how we welcome visitors into our school. Adults and children are proud to be part of our community and enjoy being together, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Please see below a booklet for parents and carers explaining in more detail how we use Jigsaw Time in our school and a parent workshop below to help increase your understanding of the RHE curriculum (taught as part of Jigsaw Time).
